Police in Luweero District are investigating a case of cattle theft that occurred on Thursday at around 8:00 PM in Nakaseta Village, Busiika Town Council.
Two suspects, identified as Godfrey Taremwa (21) and Nathan Kanyesigye, also known as Frank (24), both herdsmen from Kitegwa Village, Lwebisanja Ward in Kyankwanzi District, are currently in police custody.
According to Savannah Region Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiinamazima, officers in Wobulenzi Town Council received a tip-off about three individuals moving a herd of over 20 cows along Bamunanika Road toward Wobulenzi. Police responded swiftly, arresting two suspects and recovering 26 stolen cows. However, the third suspect managed to escape and remains at large.
During interrogation, the arrested suspects admitted to stealing the cattle from Nakaseta Village in Busiika Town Council and revealed they were transporting them to Kyankwanzi District for sale.
Authorities have charged the suspects with cattle theft, and investigations are ongoing.
ASP Twiinamazima confirmed the arrests and reassured the public of law enforcement’s commitment to combating livestock theft in the region.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police to help curb cattle theft, which has become a growing concern in some rural areas.
