Emorimor Challenges Iteso to Tackle Family Violence Through Food Security Initiatives
Emorimor urged families to put an end to domestic violence

Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot, the paramount chief of Teso, has called on his people to tackle family violence by focusing on food security and community unity.

Speaking at the burial of Joyce Mary Akiteng in Oponyongo Village, Katakwi District, Emorimor highlighted how domestic conflicts contribute to family instability, with many couples facing divorce due to crises at home.

The late Akiteng was the wife of Mze Gerald Odeke Ojakala, an elder of the Ikuruka clan, who had been instrumental in the cultural initiation of Emorimor before his coronation in 2022.

During the ceremony, Emorimor emphasised the need for clan leaders across Teso to unite in resolving land disputes peacefully, reinforcing their critical role in maintaining community harmony.

“A clan leader is not determined by age or education but by their wisdom and ability to handle disputes,” Emorimor stated.

“I challenge you to aggressively address land conflicts to ensure peace in our communities.”

Additionally, Emorimor urged families to put an end to domestic violence, noting that such conflicts not only divide families but also push children to leave their homes, leading to difficult lives.

He stressed the importance of education, calling on clan leaders to monitor school attendance within their communities to strengthen unity and societal growth.

As political activities heat up in Katakwi, Emorimor appealed to the community to refrain from division and conflict, advocating for peaceful voting practices and the election of capable leaders.

Toto Akaliait supported Emorimor’s message, underscoring the significance of education in securing a brighter future for the Ateker people.

The event also coincided with the Iteso Cultural Union Council’s meeting to honour the late Papa Jones Oluma, the Deputy Prime Minister for North, who passed away last week.

His body will be taken to the ICU offices for respect-paying before being transported to his ancestral home for the funeral on Sunday.
