Leaders and lawyers of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have petitioned the High Court, seeking the unconditional release of their supporters who remain in detention under the orders of the Court Martial.

The opposition party argues that the continued incarceration of their members is unlawful and a violation of their fundamental rights.

Led by NUP legal representative George Musisi, the petitioners insist that civilians should not be subjected to military courts and demand their immediate release.

According to NUP officials and family members of the detained supporters, several of the still detained NUP members have been detained for years without trial, raising concerns over fair legal procedures and human rights violations.

The party leadership, including top officials and legal teams, assembled at the High Court to push for judicial intervention.

“Political persecution has intensified, and this petition is a crucial step in seeking justice for their imprisoned members” Musisi says

“We are to tell civilian courts to rise to the occasion and fight for themselves as court because they are being emasculated, fight for your authority and space to see that the decisions of the supreme court get to be implemented with immediacy” leader of opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi

While authorities have yet to respond to the latest petition, the NUP leadership vows to continue pursuing legal avenues to secure the freedom of their detained supporters.
