The Ministry of Finance has set aside Shs. 41 billion in the next financial year 2025/2026 to facilitate the government's takeover of new universities.
According to State Minister for Finance Henry Musasizi, the funds will be channeled to the Ministry of Education and Sports to operationalize the new universities, including Busoga, Kotido campus of Gulu, and Bunyoro University.
"The 41 billion shillings will enable us to operationalize these new universities and ensure a smooth transition from private to government ownership," Minister Musasizi explained. "We will continue to support the operational activities of the task forces spearheading this transition in the financial year 2025/2026 and the medium term."
The Minister, along with other officials from the Ministry of Finance, appeared before the Budget Committee to provide clarification on the National Budget Framework Paper 2025/2026.
