. “The Election Management Committee (EMC) wishes to call upon party members who are qualified and willing to express interest in carrying the party flag for the position of Member of Parliament for Kawempe North Division and Councillor LC 3 for Kazo-Angola Ward,” Walukamba said.

Nominated candidates will be announced on February 5, 2025.

The Kawempe North parliamentary seat became vacant after the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9, 2025, following weeks of hospitalisation.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election for March 13, 2025.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Kawempe on Monday, EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama outlined the electoral timeline.

Candidate nominations will take place on February 26 and 27, while campaigns will run from February 28 to March 11.

Polling is set for March 13, 2025.

Byabakama emphasised the importance of stakeholder cooperation during the process.

“The conduct of elections involves many stakeholders. Adherence to the electoral laws and guidelines by all stakeholders during the entire electoral process is therefore very crucial,” he said.

The Kazo-Angola councillor position also fell vacant following the 2022 death of Yusuf Yakubu Kiggundu in a road accident while on his way to campaign for an NUP candidate in Omoro district.
