Minister Adoa champions youth mindset change

In a concerted effort to combat escalating crime in Serere District, State Minister for Fisheries, Hellen Adoa, has spearheaded a youth-focused initiative aimed at addressing drug abuse, early marriages, and domestic violence.
Dubbed the "Say No to Drug Abuse, Early Marriages, and Domestic Violence Run," the event seeks to empower the youth to embrace productive and developmental mindsets.

The district has faced rising cases of crime, including gang activities, robbery, and destruction of crops like cassava,including deaths cases registered prompting leaders to take action.
Speaking during the event, Adoa expressed concern over the persistent insecurity in Serere, despite her numerous complaints to security authorities and even the Vice President.
โThe youth are at the center of these crimes, yet they hold the potential to drive the districtโs development. This run is a step toward changing their mindset and steering them away from destructive behaviors,โ Minister Adoa said.
The initiative brought together youth leaders and Local Council one chairpersons to foster dialogue and promote community-driven solutions.
Adoa emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in tackling the root causes of crime, urging communities to unite in addressing social challenges.
Robert Igwarit, the Sub-County Chairperson of Pingire, highlighted the prevalence of drug abuse in the area, particularly among young people.
โDrug abuse is a significant issue in our community. By bringing the youth together and sensitizing them, we are taking a critical step in the right direction,โ Igwarit noted.
The run served as both a symbolic and practical effort to mobilize the youth, raising awareness of the consequences of drug abuse, early marriages, and domestic violence.
Participants were encouraged to engage in income-generating activities and community projects to improve their livelihoods and reduce dependency on harmful habits.
Leaders also emphasized the role of parents, educators, and local authorities in guiding young people toward positive behavior and ensuring that the message of change reaches every corner of the district.
The campaign is expected to spark a broader conversation on addressing youth-related challenges in Serere and fostering a crime-free environment conducive to development.
Adoa also gave youth startup capital of 5million in each village totaling to over shs100million to boost youth in their endeavors .
The initiative underscores the governmentโs commitment to creating safer and more productive communities through mindset change and empowerment programs.
As the district continues to grapple with crime, initiatives like this highlight the critical role of leadership in shaping a better future for the youth and the community at large.
