The Vice President Jessica Alupo has been recognised as one of the top 100 most influential women in Africa, celebrated for her leadership and transformative contributions to her country and continent.

Alupo’s inclusion on the prestigious list was announced by Avance Media, a leading Public Relations and Rating Firm in Africa, during the launch of its 6th annual edition.

The list, which spans 32 African countries, showcases the diverse impact of women in various sectors, including governance, diplomacy, business, entertainment, media, and philanthropy.

Alupo is part of a distinguished group that includes prominent figures such as Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, and Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania.

The recognition of Alupo, who also serves as the Woman MP for Katakwi District, underscores her influence in breaking barriers for women in leadership roles across Africa.

"These achievements mark a historic milestone for women in leadership across the continent," said Alupo, highlighting the progress toward gender equity and empowerment in Africa’s governance.

The selection criteria for the 2024 list included excellence in leadership, personal accomplishments, and a commitment to knowledge-sharing and breaking the status quo.

Alupo’s leadership has earned her recognition not only in Uganda but on the global stage, as evidenced by her recent participation in the 4th Eurasian Women Forum in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Earlier, in 2024, Alupo was also awarded the ‘Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa’ by President Yoweri Museveni, Uganda's highest civilian honor.

The award, given for significant contributions to the nation’s socioeconomic development, places her among distinguished African leaders and acknowledges her role in empowering women across Uganda.

In his remarks, President Museveni praised Alupo for her resilience and dedication, particularly in advocating for women’s empowerment.

"Her work has earned her this distinguished recognition, solidifying her role as a key figure in Uganda’s leadership," he said.
