A total of  722,730 candidates have passed the just released 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations.

The results released on Thursday indicated that this number is higher than the 648,662 who passed the same exams the previous year.

According to UNEB, during the 2024 PLE exams, 84,301 representing 10.7% passed in division one, 397,589 in division two, 165,284 in division three, and 75,556 in division four.

A total of 64,251 totally failed the exams and are not eligible for admission to the Senior One class.

A higher proportion of the 2024 candidates passed in Division 2 and above level, as overall, the performance of candidates is better than that of 2023.

A higher proportion of the candidates passed (91.8%) compared to 2023 (88.0%). There is a drop in the number of candidates obtaining Division 1.

The results also show that  males performed better than the females and recorded a lower failure rate.

However, in terms of numbers, there are more girls in Division 2 and at the lower Divisions because of the fact that more candidates registered and sat the examination than the boys.

 Inmates

The 2024 PLE results show that att the Luzira Upper Prison School,  51 candidates sat for the exams, four passed in Division 1, 36 obtained Division 2, 13 obtained Division 3, 6 obtained Division 4, and none were ungraded; while 12 did not sit for the examination.

At Mbarara Main Prison Inmates Primary School, 37 candidates were registered and of those, 4 obtained Division 1; 20 are in Division 2, 10 are in Division 3 while three are in Division 4. None were ungraded.

All candidates were male.
