FDC congratulates CHADEMA on peaceful leadership transition
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has congratulated Tanzania’s CHADEMA Party on a successful and democratic leadership transition.
The change in leadership followed CHADEMA’s National Delegates Conference at Mlimani City Conference Hall, where Tundu Antiphas Mughwai Lissu was elected as the new Party Chairman with 51.5% of the vote.

In a show of political maturity, Mbowe conceded defeat and extended congratulations to his successor, underscoring the Party’s commitment to internal democracy and leadership renewal.
FDC, Uganda’s largest opposition party, highlighted the significance of this transition in reshaping Tanzania’s political landscape.
Lissu, a former Member of Parliament, human rights advocate, and CHADEMA’s 2020 Presidential candidate, is expected to steer the party toward greater democratic engagement and reform.
In a statement, FDC commended CHADEMA’s resilience and dedication to democratic ideals.
“We share a common political philosophy and center-right ideology with CHADEMA. We congratulate Hon. Lissu’s leadership and look forward to collaborating to advance democracy and good governance across Africa,” the statement read.
FDC also paid tribute to Mbowe’s 21-year tenure, praising his contributions to CHADEMA’s growth despite political repression and challenges.
“His leadership saw the Party champion transformative campaigns, constitutional advocacy, and electoral reforms. His legacy will continue to inspire CHADEMA’s journey toward a more democratic Tanzania and Africa,” FDC stated.
The leadership change is seen as a milestone for CHADEMA, further solidifying its role as a key opposition force in Tanzania’s politics.
