The Justice Forum (JEEMA) and officials from the Democratic Alliance (DA) have held discussions on electoral reforms and national dialogue as the country prepares for the 2026 elections.
The meeting, held at JEEMA's Mengo headquarters, focused on rallying political actors, cultural, and religious institutions to support the call for electoral reforms and a conducive environment for the upcoming elections.
JEEMA Secretary Mr. Muhammad Katerega reaffirmed his party’s commitment to collaborating with all forces advocating for political change in Uganda.
He emphasised the party's readiness to work with like-minded groups to foster reforms that ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
“We are ready to work with all change-seeking forces to create a political environment that promotes democracy and peaceful transitions of power,” Katerega said.
However, Katerega issued a cautionary message to political actors opposed to dialogue, labeling them a threat to the success of political change in Uganda.
He urged those against dialogue to reconsider their positions, stressing that unity and constructive discussions are key to driving the necessary reforms.
“We cannot afford to have division among the forces advocating for change. Those against dialogue must rethink their position for the benefit of the country,” he added.
The interim leader of the Democratic Alliance, Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, commended JEEMA for its proactive stance and underscored the urgent need for political forces to fast-track the implementation of electoral reforms.
He stressed that all stakeholders must unite to ensure the electoral process is credible and transparent ahead of the 2026 elections.
The meeting also revealed that efforts are underway to initiate a national dialogue aimed at addressing critical issues such as reconciliation, national unity, and political leadership change.
The proposed dialogue seeks to create an inclusive and peaceful political atmosphere, allowing all stakeholders to contribute to shaping Uganda’s future.
