Police hunt for masterminds of murder of Nyanjura’s brother during mobile money raid

Police have said they are hunting for three suspects who are believed to have masterminded the murder of Albert Cook Tugume, 33, who was attacked at his mobile money shop in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.

Tugume was a young brother to Kampala deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura.

The November, 22, attack also saw Bernard Sabiiti, 30, a boda boda rider who attempted to intervene killed and an unspecified amount of money robbed.

On Friday, four suspects including Jimmy Mutagubya,27, a boda boda rider, Bosco Kayemba, 47 a builder, Marvin Makanga, 27 and Hamza Mutebi, 30 a business were arraigned before the City Hall Chief Magistrates Court and charged with murder, aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.

They have since been remanded to Luzira.

The hunt

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire told journalists that they are still hunting for three suspects Hussein Kabuye, Joseph Bambaiha,aka fire and Martin Lukenge to face similar charges related to the murder and subsequent robbery.

“The trio is currently on the run but we appeal to the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of these suspects still on the run,” Owoyesigyire said.

He said that anyone with regarding the whereabouts of the trio can report to police using numbers  0743343413, 0741111333 and 0786 536296

“Alternatively, reports can be made at the nearest police station. The Uganda Police Force remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims and maintaining public safety.”

The attack

The November, 22 attack saw armed assailants travelling on a boda boda raid a mobile money shop in Ntinda operated by Nyanjura’s brother.

The attackers targeted the time when the operator of the mobile money was closing his shop to return home and pounced on him

Realising the danger,  Albert Cook Tugume tried to flee the scene with a bag containing an unspecified amount of money, mobile agent lines and bank agent machines.

However, as he fled the scene, the attackers shot and killed him before taking away the bag, agent lines and machines.

A boda boda rider who tried to intervene was shot and died at Mulago Hospital where he had been rushed for treatment of injuries sustained.
