Kaziimba challenges youth to embrace scripture for transformational leadership
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has urged the youth to embrace scripture as a foundation for personal growth and leadership transformation.
Addressing hundreds of attendees at the closure of the Provincial Annual Youths and Students Convention (PAYSCO) at Mengo, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized that living by the teachings of scripture is essential for developing integrity and purpose-driven leadership.

“Youth, if you desire to make a significant impact, the scripture must guide your life. It is only through God’s word that you can lead with integrity and purpose,” Dr Kaziimba said.
He also cautioned the youth against the pitfalls of undisciplined behavior, bad company, and inappropriate dressing, urging them to maintain a strong moral compass and lead by example.
The three-day convention, themed "Transformed Generation of Leaders", featured sessions aimed at equipping youth with spiritual, moral, and practical skills for leadership.
Dr. John Senyonyi, a renowned Bible expositor and former Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University encouraged the youth to see leadership as a calling and a tool for community transformation.
Dr. Ruth Senyonyi, Chairperson of the Uganda AIDS Commission, spoke on "The Integrity and Sexual Purity of a Leader," stressing the importance of moral purity in leadership, while Rev. Dr. Lydia Kitayimbwa of Makerere University's St. Francis Chapel shared insights on "Generational Challenges and Opportunities of Leadership."
In addition to spiritual teachings, participants were trained in practical skills such as baking, hairdressing, knitting, and catering, facilitated by Bbira Vocational Training College.
The College Principal, Eng. Juliet Nakanjako Ngabirano, highlighted the importance of empowering youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.
“This aligns with our mandate to equip the youth with skills to create opportunities for themselves and others,” she said.
The convention also included Bible study quiz competitions, Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) performances, and team-building games.
Participants who downloaded the Church of Uganda App entered a draw to win smartphones, while those who recited ten Bible verses received study Bibles.
Emmanuel Koboi, the Youth and Students Coordinator, applauded sponsors and dioceses for supporting the event, which facilitated spiritual growth, practical skilling, and networking among participants.
“The participants have greatly benefited from Bible expositions, practical skills, and fellowship. Their exemplary moral behavior throughout the convention reflects the teachings they have received,” Rev. Koboi said.
Simon Peter Ddembe Lya Yesu, the Director of Mission and Outreach, praised the youth’s commitment and growth during the sessions.
“We have witnessed a remarkable transformation among the youth, who are now better equipped with leadership skills and a deeper understanding of their faith,” he said.
