Ugandans urged to use dogs to solve domestic security challenges during festive season
As the country heads into the festive season, experts have urged the public to make use of dogs to help solve domestic security challenges.
Speaking during the annual dog festival in Kampala, Aferino Ngabirano from the Police’s canine unit said as the festive season draws near, crimes also increase, calling for vigilance.
“Whenever it comes to the period of festive season , crimes increase as criminals take advantage of the laxity of the members of the public. However, we advise that people use dogs. Dogs can't sleep as they are always alert ,” Ngabirano said.
He said good dogs can be got from breeders all over the country to provide security.
“One sniffer dog can perform duties that can be performed by 20 police officers. For example giving personnel to check a certain building it will take them quite some time but if you have a single dog, it will do it in less than five minutes and the work is done."
Alex Ssembatya, the chairman of Dogwalk Events said they organize the annual dog walks to sensitize members of the public about benefits of having dogs at home.
