The Democratic Party (DP) Block political faction is set to announce its presidential candidate for Uganda’s 2026 general elections.

The official unveiling, which will also introduce their parliamentary candidates, is scheduled for December 6, 2024, in Masaka City.

Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku, a key figure in the DP Block, confirmed that the faction has identified a candidate they strongly believe in.

“We are ready to present a leader who resonates with our vision for Uganda,” Mukaaku said, adding that the faction is focused on avoiding the pitfalls encountered during the People Power era.

This time, the DP Block aims to strengthen its cohesion by fostering a sense of ownership and commitment among its members.

On the relationship with the Democratic Party and its leadership, Mukaaku shared that the faction is closely monitoring DP President Norbert Mao’s actions.

“If Mao can address past mistakes and restore confidence within the party, we are open to working with him to advance shared objectives,” Mukaaku noted.

However, he emphasized that failure by Mao to make the necessary reforms would push the DP Block to seek alignment with an alternative political platform, opposing the current government in the 2026 elections.

The DP Block’s announcement marks a significant step in Uganda’s evolving political landscape, signaling their determination to present a united front in the upcoming elections.
