Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the mufti of Uganda  has applauded traffic constable Abdallah Tusiime for his outstanding commitment to public service.

The Mufti’s recognition came after a video of Constable Tusiime directing traffic in heavy rain in Kamwokya, Kampala, went viral on social media, drawing admiration for his dedication.

Tusiime’s name, meaning “needs to be thanked” in Runyankore, gained symbolic resonance as road users praised his devotion.

In recognition of his exemplary conduct, Mubaje invited Tusiime to the National Mosque for a special event where he expressed the Muslim community’s appreciation for the officer’s integrity and dedication.

During the ceremony, Mubaje emphasised Islamic teachings on compassion and responsibility.

He quoted verses from the Qur’an and sayings of Prophet Muhammad, underscoring the importance of kindness and service.

“A good Muslim in the sight of Almighty Allah is the one who performs acts that are beneficial to others,” he noted, highlighting Constable Tusiime as an example of these values.

The Mufti also used the occasion to address challenges within public service.

He lamented issues like absenteeism and a lack of commitment among some public servants, which he said impacts service delivery.

“We are living in a contemporary world where many employees in various sectors engage in absenteeism and shirk their duties, yet still expect full salary payments at the end of the month,” Mubaje observed.

He praised Tusiime’s dedication, especially in adverse conditions, where traffic officers play a critical role in maintaining public safety.

Mubaje urged Muslim public servants to act as ambassadors of their faith through their work ethic.

He presented Tusiime with a special gift and certificate of appreciation, a gesture symbolising the community’s gratitude.
