Ruto Calls for Global Collaboration to Combat Hunger
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — Kenyan President William Ruto has called for enhanced global collaboration to address hunger and food insecurity in Africa.
Speaking at the World Without Hunger Conference in Addis Ababa, Ruto stressed the importance of joint efforts between governments, international organizations, and the private sector to implement policies that boost food production and address the needs of rapidly growing populations.
“Global collaboration is essential to effectively fight hunger and implement policies and programs to boost food production to feed the rising populations,” President Ruto emphasized.
He called for better support for farmers, including adequate resources, inputs, irrigation systems, and infrastructure to reduce post-harvest losses.
The conference brought together African and international leaders, such as Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio, UN Industrial Development Organization Director-General Gerd Muller, UAE Minister of State Sheikh Shakbout, and Deputy African Union Commission Chairperson Monique Nsanzabagwana.
Together, they voiced the need for a unified response to food insecurity, a challenge exacerbated by climate change, economic instability, and population growth.
In addition to addressing hunger, Ruto, who serves as the African Union’s Champion of Institutional Reforms, spoke to the Permanent Representatives Committee of the African Union.
He advocated for sweeping reforms within the AU to enhance accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness in meeting the needs of African states and citizens.
“Africa must become organized and build the necessary synergy to tackle the challenges that face the continent,” Ruto declared, urging a thorough and consultative reform agenda for the AU.
His speech underscored a dual focus on both global cooperation for food security and institutional strengthening within the African Union.
President Ruto’s remarks highlight his commitment to addressing systemic challenges on the continent, aiming to build sustainable frameworks for food security and institutional effectiveness across Africa.
