Now that Donald Trump has won, the sanctions are gone

The  Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anitah Among, has  emphasised her commitment to resilience despite any form of intimidation. Reassuring her supporters, she declared, “No amount of intimidation can ever move me from where I am. I will remain the smiling me,” underscoring her determination to stay steadfast amid political tensions.

Among’s remarks come as Donald Trump reclaims the U.S. presidency, a shift that she believes could ease international pressures on Uganda.

“Now that Donald Trump has won, the sanctions are gone,” she stated, signalling confidence that his administration may foster stronger diplomatic ties and avoid sanctions on Uganda.

Having faced scrutiny both domestically and internationally over issues such as human rights and governance, Among’s message conveys a defiant stance, reaffirming her resistance to outside pressures.

As Uganda redefines its position on the global stage, Among’s words reflect an optimistic outlook for renewed relations with the United States under Trump’s leadership, with potential implications for trade, aid, and diplomatic support.
