The agreement, signed today at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe, underscores both nations' commitment to strengthening defense collaboration.

In a bid to enhance regional security, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has formalized a new military cooperation agreement with Mali’s Chief of General Staff, Major General Oumar Diarra.

The agreement, signed today at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe, underscores both nations' commitment to strengthening defense collaboration.

This pact sets the stage for joint military initiatives, including coordinated training, intelligence sharing, and capacity-building exercises aimed at countering shared security threats.

Officials emphasized that this partnership will play a critical role in addressing issues such as terrorism, insurgency, and cross-border crime, which are increasingly prevalent across the continent.

The agreement follows discussions that began in June when General Diarra visited Uganda for a cadet graduation ceremony in Kaweweta, where 19 Malian officers were among the graduates.

Both defense chiefs stressed the importance of robust military cooperation to maintain regional peace and stability.

General Kainerugaba expressed optimism about the partnership, underscoring the essential role of regional alliances in achieving a secure Africa.

Major General Diarra praised Uganda's leadership in fostering the cooperation and reaffirmed Mali’s commitment to the alliance.

This landmark agreement underscores Uganda’s growing defense partnerships within Africa, with leaders hopeful that it will set a precedent for regional collaborations aimed at addressing complex security challenges.
