We don't know her - NRM Disowns Woman Who Assaulted Traffic Officer
'As a matter of fact, she has never been a staff of the Secretariat and is unknown to us. The stories circulating are therefore false, misleading, and intended to cast a bad image of the NRM party.'
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has clarified that it is not connected to Mercy Bashisha - the woman charged with assault of a Traffic Police officer on duty - in any way.
Ms Bashisha was arrested on Friday along with her companion, Bernardine Abangira, after a video surfaced showing her arguing with Traffic officer Charles Makawa before appearing to assault him while he was on duty.

The charge sheet, dated October 21, indicated that Ms Bashisha claimed to be a Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the NRM Secretariat.
However, on Tuesday, NRM spokesperson Emmanuel Dombo said they do not recognise her as part of the NRM Secretariat.
"We would like to clarify that Ms Bashisha is neither a PRO nor a staff at the NRM Secretariat," Mr Dombo said in a statement released on Tuesday.
"As a matter of fact, she has never been a staff of the Secretariat and is unknown to us. The stories circulating are therefore false, misleading, and intended to cast a bad image of the NRM party."
Mr Dombo had earlier posted on X, formerly Twitter, that "this lady lied to the police that she works with the NRM Secretariate, thereby committing another offence!"
He said the NRM does not condone the reckless acts by Ms Bashisha, including assaulting a law enforcement officer while on official duty.
"We are glad that the law is taking its due course," Mr Dombo said.
Ms Bashisha and her co-accused were on Monday remanded to Luzira Prison until November 4, when the charges will be formally presented again.
The two women are facing charges, including robbery, reckless driving, failure to comply with police orders, and operating a vehicle without third-party insurance.
The prosecution, led by Mariam Kuluthum, accused the duo of stealing two mobile phones and an EPS Printer Machine valued at Shs14 million from Police Constable Charles Makawa, using physical violence against him.
