The United Nations has revealed that 733 million people globally are facing hunger, as conflicts, economic crises, and other global challenges continue to disrupt food security.
Marking World Food Day, the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) called for increased efforts to ensure that food assistance reaches those in need, as millions of lives depend on it.
In a statement posted on the UN’s official X account, the WFP emphasised the growing scale of the hunger crisis, which has been exacerbated by conflict, climate change, and economic instability.
With nearly a tenth of the world’s population affected, food assistance has become a critical lifeline, especially in regions ravaged by war and natural disasters.
“The challenges we face today demand a coordinated global response,” the WFP stated, urging governments, organisations, and international donors to step up their efforts in providing food aid.
The organisation highlighted that without immediate action, the situation could deteriorate further, putting millions more at risk of starvation.
As global food insecurity continues to rise, the WFP’s call to action on World Food Day serves as a stark reminder of the need for sustained international support to combat hunger and ensure that no one is left behind.
