BUSIA " Uganda’s 62nd Independence Day took a historic turn in Busia District, where Colonel Deo Akiiki, the Deputy Defence Spokesperson, commanded a milestone military parade.
In a post on X after the event, Colonel Akiiki expressed deep gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) leadership for granting him the honor of leading the parade.
He described the event as “the first of its kind in Uganda, South of the Sahara, and North of River Limpopo since the advent of our independence.”
This year's celebration, held in Busia, marked a notable shift from past events, as the government aimed to bring national festivities closer to various regions.
The parade featured personnel from the UPDF, Police, Prisons, and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), showcasing precise formations that symbolized the discipline, strength, and unity of Uganda’s armed forces.
The UPDF has played a crucial role in ensuring national security and contributing to regional peacekeeping efforts.
For Colonel Akiiki, commanding the parade was both a personal and professional milestone, reflecting his growing influence within the UPDF.
His social media message conveyed pride and appreciation for the trust placed in him. The event was attended by government officials, military leaders, and citizens who gathered to commemorate Uganda’s journey since gaining independence from British rule in 1962.
