The fire broke out at around 11pm on Saturday

Authorities in Luwero District are investigating a fire that broke out late Saturday night in Kelezia Zone, Kikyusa Ward, Kikyusa Town Council.

The incident occurred on 28th September at approximately 11:00 pm.

According to a police report, the fire erupted from structures made primarily of timber, with roofs made of iron sheets and some grass-thatched houses.

The affected buildings were being used for cooking local delicacies, including kigere (cow hooves) and mutwe (animal heads), and brewing local beer, commonly known as marwa.

Preliminary information suggests that one of the workers may have accidentally left a fire unattended, and the strong winds in the area are believed to have fanned the flames, resulting in the fire spreading.

Police responded swiftly, and along with local community members, worked together to extinguish the blaze using water. Their efforts were successful in controlling the fire, preventing it from causing further damage.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. The police are now conducting investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire, assess the total value of the property damaged, and identify any possible suspects.

ASP Twineamazima Sam, the PRO Savannah Region, warned the public, highlighting that this incident should serve as a reminder of the risks posed by unattended fires, particularly in structures made of highly flammable materials.
