“Your choices matter. The decisions you make today will shape your tomorrow. The ability to manage what you have now will open doors to greater opportunities in the future,” Matekha said, encouraging the students to adopt a mindset of financial responsibility.
Matekha also noted that in today’s fast-paced world, financial literacy is crucial for navigating the challenges and opportunities that arise. He urged the students to approach financial management with discipline and careful planning, stressing that success is not only about making money but also about using it wisely to foster growth and change.
“This initiative is part of DTB’s broader efforts to support Uganda’s youth by providing them with skills that extend beyond the classroom. Financial literacy is increasingly important, and by equipping students with these skills early on, we are ensuring a lasting impact,” he added.
Pearl Kakooza, Chairperson of the Uganda Tourism Board, commended DTB’s initiative, noting that financial education plays a significant role in shaping the future of students. She stressed the importance of learning in driving progress and innovation.
“Education is the foundation of progress. Each of us has a crucial role in shaping the future through knowledge and learning.
DTB’s efforts to raise financial awareness among students are commendable, because we must remember that we are part of a global community, and through knowledge, we can achieve extraordinary things,” Kakooza remarked.
Matekha said the partnership between DTB and Makerere University reflects a shared commitment to preparing students for the future, equipping them with practical skills that will help them thrive in an increasingly complex financial landscape.
