Over 100,000 digital number plates printed, ready for rollout by November 1st

The company contracted by the Ugandan government to manufacture digital number plates, the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS), has announced that it has already printed over 100,000 number plates at its production facility in Kawempe, a suburb of Kampala.

Speaking at journalists Galina Svalova, the head of communication for the company, revealed that ITMS is set to roll out the plates in phases. Motorcycles will be the first to receive the new digital plates starting November 1st, 2024, while private vehicles will follow on January 1st, 2025.

"The facility is well-equipped, and we are ready for the task ahead," Svalova said, adding that the production site has the capacity to produce at least 5,000 number plates per day. This ensures that the company will meet the increasing demand for digital number plates as the deadline approaches.

The phased rollout of the digital plates is expected to bring significant changes to Uganda's transport system, with a focus on reducing vehicle-related crimes and improving accountability on the roads.

This move has been widely anticipated, with many stakeholders hoping that it will lead to more effective road monitoring and better enforcement of traffic laws across the country
