John Kamara Nizeyimana, MP Bufumbira North presented Ruth Nyiraneza to the mourners as the family’s proposed successor to the fallen Minister Mateke.
Kamara said that nominating a successor would prevent confusion similar to that experience during the Bukimbiri bye-election.
The Bukimbiri county MP Eddy Kwizera Wangahungu noted that the majority of the people in Kisoro support the decision, stressing that with the NRM party elections scheduled for next year, having two primary elections would waste resources for those interested in contesting for woman MP seat.
He called on potential candidate to wait until 2026 general elections, adding that there is need to maintain peace and stability as the community heals from the loss of minister Mateke.
Kwizera highlighted that while the family’s choice would be significant, competence would also play a crucial role. However, noted that the NRM secretariat would still have the authority to present a candidate to hold party flag.
“The majority of Kisoro residents support this decision. We must maintain peace and stability as we heal from minister Mateke’s loss.”Kwezira says.
Ramathan Ndikuyezi, vice chairperson of the Kisoro district NRM party mentioned that Sarha Mateke left numerous projects in progress and that only someone from the Mateke family could complete them, as all her plans were known within the family. He called on residents to support the family’s proposed candidate to carry on Sarah Mateke legacy.
“Only Somone from the Mateke family can complete Sarah’s projects. We urge residents to support Ruth Nyiraneza.”Ndikuyezi noted.
Rosemary Ssendinde the national NRM coordinator appreciated the people of Kisoro for accepting to endorse the younger sister to the late.
We appreciate Kisoro’s residents for endorsing Ruth Nyiraneza. This unity will ensure Minister Mateke’s legacy lives.
