Government is set to commission MV BKK ferries to ease transport along the waters of Lake Kyoga.

The Uganda National Road Authority ( UNRA) which is mandated to over see the operations of ferries across the major water bodies has revealed that the forthcoming commissioning of the MV BKK ferries marks a transformative moment for communities around Lake Kyoga.

The  operations which is set later this year, these ferries promise to revolutionize local transportation by drastically reducing the travel time between key destinations.

Currently, a road journey from Buyende to Kaberamaido can take up to eight hours; the MV BKK ferries will cut this time down to just 1.5 hours.

This significant reduction in travel time is expected to be a major economic boon for the region.The introduction of this free ferry service is poised to be a game-changer for the local economy.

By lowering transportation costs, the ferries will provide a much-needed boost to the agricultural sector.

Farmers in Buyende, Kaberamaido, and Serere, who previously faced challenges in accessing broader markets, will now find it easier to transport their goods.
