Bugiri District plagued by political infighting, Minister Lumumba warns against partisanship

Bugiri district is reeling from a scathing attack by Minister Justine Lumumba Kasule, who has lambasted a section of local leaders for perpetuating division and stifling development.

While commissioning a Shs 2.9 billion pipe water project in Mayuge town, Lumumba unleashed a fiery warning to Resident District Commissioner Paul Kalikwani, urging him to shun partisan politics also asking the new district police commander Micheal Akaturinda to never engage himself in partisan politics Bugiri.

Lumumba's ire was sparked by Local Council V Chairperson Davidson Mulumba Kasajja's plea to remove Area MP Solomon Serwanyi, accused of masterminding brawls in the district.

Lumumba's furious reaction highlighted the deep-seated divisions crippling Bugiri's progress.

"Bugiri has lost its grip on respect, with functions turning into pulpits of disrespect," Lumumba declared. "Time is wasted on plotting each other's downfall instead of working together for development."

Agnes Taka the Bugiri female legislator also decried of the same saying upon her victory attempts to hoodwink her were made and turned down requests which she said is the reason for her dislocation with her fellow legislator.

Angela Kyekwemboi who declares bid to oust Taka said locals have grown weary of the endless politicking and infighting, saying the district's development has suffered, Kyekwemboi said the district's future depends on putting aside differences and working towards a common goal.
