Organisers have unveiled nominees for the inaugural National Events Service Providers awards set for October, 23 in Kampala.

During an event at Zimbali Bristo and Lounge in Kampala, a list of 124 nominees in 25 categories was unveiled to the public to enable them participate in voting.

The nominees are in events decoration, bakery, catering, tents, rentals, beverage catering, comedy, traditional MCs, live band, DJs, dance troupes, children entertainers, events photography and video coverage, event promotion, event venues, makeup artists, hair stylists, attire service providers, luxury car service providers, ushering, event security and event organisers among others.

According to organisers, five  honorary awards will be given to innovators, investors and passionate supporters of the events service industry.

The theme for this year’s award is “Celebrating the art of excellence and hospitality in Uganda’s events service industry.”

Abel Mugisha, the president and co-founder of NESPAS said the awards is yet another platform to organize and bring together events service providers.

“You find a number of service providers have ways they execute their duties yet some have not been trained and others don’t understand what they are doing.  By coming together, we want to collaborate and mentor some of those who need mentorship,” Mugisha said.

“We want to identify those who have been long into business to come out to help the young ones who are trying to come up so they too can be proud of this industry.”

Mugisha asked government to take interest into events service providers by supporting them in all ways possible, noting that this is one of the ways of creating jobs for the many employed youths in the country.

“We would like government to support more the events service sector because under this sector are a number of jobs.”
