Anti-corruption protests persist in Kampala
In Kampala today, a group of approximately 18 youth took to the streets to voice their frustration over ongoing corruption within the government.
Chanting slogans such as “Say No to Corruption” and “Anita Must Resign,” the group attempted to march towards the Parliament of Uganda on August 15, 2024, in a renewed wave of anti-corruption protests.
One of the protestors passionately expressed their grievances, highlighting a tragic incident that occurred at Kiteezi landfill, where approximately 30 people lost their lives.
“It’s unfortunate that about 30 people died at Kiteezi landfill and several others are hospitalised when the money that would have helped to manage the garbage that fell on their house is stolen and eaten by our leaders and people who call themselves ‘abekitibwa’,” the protestor lamented.
Reports coming in say that so far two protesters have been arrested.
As these protests unfold, the voices of the youth continue to rise against the corruption they believe is costing lives and damaging the country.
The demand for accountability and justice remains at the forefront of their cause. Will their voices be heard? Only time will tell.
