The 63-year-old was set on fire by unknown assailants in a shocking act of violence at his home.
TORORO | Obore Village in Tororo Municipality was rocked by tragedy last night when Joseph Olokojo, a retired educator and former headmaster of St Peter’s College, was brutally attacked and killed.
The 63-year-old was set on fire by unknown assailants in a shocking act of violence at his home.
According to police reports, the attackers broke into Olokojo’s residence around midnight by breaching the perimeter fence.
As Olokojo attempted to escape and protect his family, the assailants overpowered him, dousing him in petrol and igniting the flames.
The fire caused severe injuries, and Olokojo was initially rushed to St Anthony Hospital in Tororo. His condition deteriorated, however, and he was transferred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital before being moved to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“We have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information about this attack to come forward,” said Moses Mugwe, Bukedi South police spokesperson.
The brutal murder has left Obore Village in shock and mourning. Olokojo was a beloved figure, known for his dedication and service as an educator.
His contributions to the community through his role as headmaster at St. Peter’s College were widely recognized and appreciated.
“He was a peaceful man and a true community pillar,” Ronald Paito, a neighbor, told Nile Post. “His kindness and dedication to his students were evident to all who knew him.”
Colleagues and former students remember Olokojo as a committed educator who was always present at the school, regardless of the day.
“He was devoted to his work and to his students,” said one former teacher, who wished to remain anonymous.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.
The community is calling for swift action from authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We demand that those responsible for this heinous act be held accountable,” said Stephen Ofumbi, a local resident.
The loss of Joseph Olokojo has left a significant void in the community, particularly among his former students at St. Peter’s College, who remember him as a mentor and role model.
His legacy of dedication and kindness will be cherished by all who knew him.
Olokojo’s body is still at Mulago Hospital, and arrangements are being made for his return to his home.
