Muslim leaders reaffirm Palestinian rights at International Islamic conference
Muslim leaders from around the world have reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
This declaration was made during the 9th International Islamic Conference, held under the patronage of King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, which recently concluded in Makkah.
The four-day conference, which brought together influential Muslim leaders from around the world, including Uganda’s Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, issued a final communiqué highlighting nine key resolutions. Chief among them was the call for an immediate end to all forms of aggression in Gaza and support for Palestinians.
“We reaffirm the right of Palestinians to establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the communiqué stated.
The participants urged the international community, including humanitarian agencies, to assist in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The conference also emphasized the importance of moderation in Islamic discourse, aiming to combat extremism and promote unity within the Muslim community.
“We call for Muslims to adopt a balanced approach in religious teachings to counteract extremism and division,” the communiqué read.
Another significant resolution focused on the regulation of fatwa issuances to ensure they align with Sharia law and serve the common good.
“It is crucial to regulate fatwa issuances to prevent harm and maintain community stability,” the leaders advised.
The conference also promoted cooperation among member states, calling for the exchange of expertise in areas such as mosque construction and the use of media to spread the peaceful messages of Islam.
“We encourage the exchange of experiences among Islamic nations to enhance the efficiency of mosque personnel and media communication,” the communiqué concluded.
The event concluded with gratitude expressed towards King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman for their efforts in promoting Islam globally.
Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed Hamid Wandega, is expected to return to Uganda today Thursday.
