Norwegian embassy closes with symbolic flag lowering marking end of era
In a symbolic and emotional ceremony, the Norwegian flag was lowered for the last time at the Norwegian Embassy in Uganda, marking the official closure of the diplomatic mission.
The event which took place earlier this week, was attended by embassy staff, local officials, and members of the diplomatic community.
"It is with mixed emotions that we lower the Norwegian flag for the last time," said through their X handle. "The Embassy is now closed, but Norway remains committed to its partnership and friendship with Uganda."
The closure of the embassy does not signify an end to the relations between Norway and Uganda, as emphasized by the ambassador. "This is not a goodbye," he assured.
"Norway remains present in Uganda through various programs and initiatives, continuing our shared work in development, education, and health." he noted.
The closure of the embassy is part of Norway's broader diplomatic restructuring, aimed at optimizing its global diplomatic presence. The embassy's functions will now be managed through regional offices and partnerships.
As the Norwegian flag was ceremonially lowered, attendees reflected on the historical ties and the enduring bonds between the two nations..
