Solomon Serwanjja has sharply criticised the notion that Ugandan youth need external forces to mobilise while he appeared on the Morning Breeze show on the NBS Television. His comments follow the Tuesday anti-grant march to parliament protest that saw the involvement of  several youth, with some getting arrested.

"Does everything have to be supported by external forces?" Serwanjja questioned, highlighting a widespread sentiment among Ugandan youth.

"Does the President think that young people can’t mobilize when they have things frustrating them? we are tired of this narrative." Serwanjja emphasized.

Serwanjja’s comments reflect a broader call for recognition of the capabilities and agency of Uganda's younger population. He emphasized that the youth are increasingly disillusioned with being perceived as passive or reliant on external influences to drive change.

"We are a vibrant and dynamic generation, I want to appreciate the young people even when they knew they were going to be arrested , they stood up and said enough is enough”, he stated .

The frustrations are genuine, and we have the capacity to mobilize and demand the changes we seek, he added.

As Uganda faces the ongoing political and economic challenges, the voice of its youth continues to grow louder, demanding a more inclusive and responsive government.
