The spouses of soldiers have been encouraged to consider life after their partners’ retirement from active service.

They have also been warned against the mismanagement of finances.

The call was made by Col Joseph Freddy Onata, Chief Executive Officer of Wazalendo SACCO, during the closing ceremony of a two-day training programme for Entebbe Spouses of Soldiers’ SACCO (ESOSS) at Air Force Secondary School in Katabi-Entebbe.

“Some of your partners in uniform have only 1-6 years left in service. Are you prepared for life after retirement?” Col Joseph Freddy Onata, Chief Executive Officer of Wazalendo SACCO," he asked.

Onata reminded them about the importance of savings, shares, and loan repayment, citing Wazalendo SACCO’s success story, and warned against greed, poor leadership, and dependence on donations, which can hinder the growth of SACCOs.

The spouses were also reminded that the Presidential Support Fund (PSF) enables them to access capital and start income-generating activities to improve their household incomes.

Earlier, the management of Entebbe Spouses of Soldiers’ SACCO received training from Wazalendo facilitators on the principles of corporate governance, organisation, and management of the SACCO.

Entebbe Spouses of Soldiers’ SACCO attracts membership from spouses of soldiers from the UPDF Air Force, Special Forces Command, and Marine Brigade.
