Mayiga condemns corruption, betrayal of trust among leaders
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has underscored the importance of honouring commitments and fighting corruption in leadership, pointing out that the breach of trust among leaders is detrimental.
His statement comes as Muslims across the country prepare to celebrate Eid al-Adha tomorrow (Sunday).

Eid al-Adha is celebrated by Muslims to honour the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son, Ismael, as an act of obedience to God.
After accepting to sacrifice his son and his son also accepting to be sacrificed, God provided the prophet with a lamb to slaughter in his son's place.
In a statement, Mayiga called upon Ugandans to reflect on the teachings of Prophet Ibrahim and strive for integrity and unity within the country.
Mayiga hailed the heroic deed of Ibrahim, who upheld his promise to sacrifice his only son, demonstrating the value of honoring commitments even at great personal cost.
He highlighted the prevalence of corruption and the betrayal of trust among leaders in Uganda, urging them to adhere to their promises and work towards the betterment of the nation.
"Uganda is currently plagued by reports of leaders allegedly involved in corruption and misappropriation of taxpayer money," Mayiga stated.
He condemned the divisive tactics employed by some leaders and emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.
The Eid al-Adha festivities involve the sacrifice of animals and feeding the community, symbolizing redemption and compassion.
Mayiga encouraged believers to be industrious in order to procure animals for this spiritual act. He also highlighted the success of the "Mmwanyi Terimba" program, which promotes unity and selflessness among the people of Buganda.
"We are starting to see the fruits of our efforts in the 'Mmwanyi Terimba' program," Mayiga said.
He further urged young people to avoid selfishness and actively participate in building a better society.
The Katikkiro emphasized the need for individuals to refrain from spreading baseless rumors and instead provide constructive opinions for the benefit of the community.
Mayiga called upon Ugandans to pray for the country and its leaders. He requested prayers for the safe return of the King, who is currently abroad for medical treatment, and for the overall well-being of Buganda.
Mayiga reinforced the importance of patience, respect, and moral discernment among leaders, urging them to lead with integrity.
The celebrations of Eid al-Adha can last up to three days.
