Finance releases Shs13bn for striking KCCA cleaners
Following the Tuesday demonstration from Kampala capital city causal laborers, the Minister for Kampala, Minsa Kabanda, has revealed that Shs13.69 billion has been received to pay 4,400 workers.
“The money is already on our accounts and distribution to casual labourers will start on .June 13," Kabanda said.
"We shall pay them to zero balance."
The minister said starting next month, KCCA will carry out a head count of causal labourers.
“We have set up guidelines and starting next month after payment each member should have a national ID, each member should belong to one of the groups either community Sacco or Seven Hills, no interviews will be carried,” Kabanda said.
Meanwhile, KCCA deputy executive director David Luyimbazi said allegations that authorities were embezzling NSSF contributions for causal labourers was not true.
Among the complaints of the striking cleaners was that their NSSF contributions for several months had not been remitted to the national savings scheme.
