Masaka City passes shs38.7bn budget

The Masaka City Council has approved the budget for the 2024/2025 financial year, totaling shs.38.759 billion.

The budget was passed  during a council meeting held at the Sky Light Hotel in Mbarara.

The budget reflects the city's commitment to enhancing service delivery and development across various sectors.

Breakdown

Education: Receiving the largest share, the education sector has been allocated shs16.5 billion . This significant investment underscores the council's dedication to improving educational infrastructure, resources, and access for the youth of Masaka.

Health: The health sector has been earmarked shs4 billion. This allocation is intended to bolster healthcare services, upgrade medical facilities, and ensure the availability of essential medicines and medical equipment.

Engineering: With an allocation of shs2.590 billion, the engineering sector is set to see improvements in infrastructure, including road maintenance, construction projects, and other public works aimed at enhancing urban mobility and safety.

Finance: The finance sector will receive shs557 million. This funding will support the city's financial management, budgeting processes, and fiscal accountability.

Statutory bodies: Statutory bodies have been allocated shs392 million. These funds are crucial for the operations of various governing and regulatory bodies within the city administration.

Production: The production sector, essential for local economic development, has been allocated shs464 million. This will support agricultural initiatives, livestock management, and other production-related activities aimed at boosting local productivity.

Natural resource management: Allocated shs289 million, this sector will focus on environmental conservation, sustainable resource management, and addressing climate change impacts.

Community development: With shs223 million, community development initiatives will aim at empowering local communities through various social and economic programs.

Planning: The planning department will receive shs155 million to facilitate urban planning, land management, and the execution of development plans.

Internal audit: Internal audit functions have been allocated shs117 million to ensure transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the utilization of public funds.

Cooperative and trade: With an allocation of shs72 million, this sector will support the growth of local cooperatives and trade activities, fostering economic development and job creation.

Acting Mayor Rosette Nansubuga stated, "This budget is a testament to our commitment to improving the lives of our citizens. By prioritizing education, healthcare, and infrastructure, we aim to build a more prosperous and resilient Masaka."
