Go and unite to fight Museveni, Tororo tells Muntu

TORORO | The Alliance for National Transformation president, General Gregory Mugisha Muntu had tough time in Tororo as supporters tasked him to go and unite with other political parties to remove the ruling National Resistance Movement party from power

For a couple of days, the Gen Muntu together with his ANT team, including Kassiano Wadri, have pitch camped in Tororo moving from subcounty to subcounty to canvass support for their party.

In almost all their meetings, Muntu was heard appealing to the population to be part of the party that is soon causing change in the country.

"Be part of organised group that want to cause change. By causing change you will be helped in fundamental ways," he said.

"Those we currently recruit into party are trained, given leadership skills, mentored and groomed, as we prepare for future leadership immediately ANT takes power."

Muntu and team are also preaching against handouts which he says will never be part of them accusing the ruling party for basing on the system to hold onto power.

He said the act has kept the population in poverty since it doesn't teach people on how to fish.

"If anyone thinks we shall use material things to win support, we won't do it," Muntu said.

"We don't convince people with material things because we know that when you capture power you create conditions that enable people to create their own wealth. This act has promoted corruption and poverty in our country and should stop."

However, the 2026 presidential hopeful has found the going rough with its supporters in the district. In almost all the subcounties he visited, the call for him to unite with other political parties to form one force that will fight Museveni has been a key.

"The problem of this country is Museveni, why can't you unite with other opposition parties and bring him down instead of you standing alone?" Joseph Oburu, one of the supporters, told Muntu

But to Mugisha, the party is currently focusing on building its grassroot support and not 2026 elections.

"We're not campaigning yet. What we're doing is building our grassroot support. Please be patient and wait for that time to come, we shall tell you want we shall do," Muntu responded.

The former presidential candidate is expected to address press conference today to update the public in his findings in the district before proceeding to another district.

Gen Muntu was one of the key players in the National Resistance Army war that brought President Museveni to power. He served as army commander for nearly a decade in the 90s.

Upon retirement from military service, Muntu joined FDC where he was president before he broke away from the party to form ANT that he is building into a political force.
