Former Vice President, Dr.Specioza Wandera Kazibwe who who is also a senior presidential advisor has asked the Anglican church in Busoga to embrace goat rearing as the way of eradicating poverty.

Dr.Kazibwe was speaking to three Anglican bishops in Busoga at her home in Budwege village, Bulamagi Sub County in Iganga district, where she asked them to serve as examples and also mobilize faithful to embrace the programs of poverty and malaria eradication.

The meeting was attended by  Rt. Rev Paul Samson Naimanhye Mukembo of Busoga diocese, Rt. Ren Patrick Wakula of Central Busoga diocese and Rt. Rev Paul Hannington Suubi of the recently created East Busoga diocese.

“Goat rearing is a good business and can help people to eradicate poverty if it’s embraced. I therefore call upon you to embrace this program of goat rearing and as well mobilize the believers and communities to take part in this project,” Dr. Kazibwe said.

She said that people in Busoga are engaged in  sugarcane growing and other crops but they have not been productive in the region since the market is not stable, and suggested that the program of goat rearing  will possibly bail them out .

Dr. Specioza Kazibwe also rallied the Bishops to support the program of malaria eradication which is being spearheaded by the Busoga Health Forum (BHF) through mass spraying and mass treatment .

“The reason for intensifying this program is because we have looked at all the interventions that have been done like the use of bed mosquito nets and there has not been good results. What we need to do is to enable these stakeholders to support us by going down and sensitizing our people,” Dr. Kazibwe said.

The director of Busoga Health Forum Moses Kyangwa said their target is mass spraying and mass treatment starting with Iganga district before covering other districts in Busoga.

He says at least 25 people die every day as a result of malaria, adding that they will empower the communities in the campaign and pledged to work with Dr. Kazibwe.

The bishops  commended Dr. Kazibwe for the projects of poverty eradication through goat rearing and malaria eradication citing that a number of people have suffered bad consequences of malaria.

They also committed themselves to support goat rearing program to eradicate poverty.
