Ssekikubo denies interest in commissioner role amidst censure campaign
Censure motion mover Theodore Ssekikubo

Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo, who has been at the forefront of a crusade to censure parliamentary commissioners over allegations of office abuse, has vehemently denied claims that he is eyeing one of the coveted positions.

Addressing the media alongside fellow MPs Joseph Ssewungu, Sarah Opendi, Patrick Nsamba, and Arion Odria, Ssekikubo dismissed any notion that his campaign against the commissioners is driven by personal ambition.

“I am not interested at all because I have been here for many years; I have seen it all,” Ssekikubo stated.

“How can I occupy this office already tainted like this? Never at all. What I am interested in is bringing sanity to Parliament and fighting corruption.”

Ssekikubo emphasised that his sole focus is to restore integrity in Parliament and that his efforts have garnered significant support from fellow legislators.

“The campaign is overwhelming with members calling and giving assurance of supporting the censure motion,” he added.

The controversy revolves around four commissioners, Solomon Silwany of Bukooli Central, Esther Afoyochan of Zombo district, Prossy Akampulira Mbabazi of Rubanda, and Mathias Mpuuga of Masaka who are accused of awarding themselves 1.7 billion shillings as a service award.

Ssekikubo and his colleagues remain steadfast in their pursuit of accountability and transparency within the parliamentary system, seeking to root out corruption at its highest levels.
