The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces and the Congolese army, FARDC  have announced the  capture of Anywari AI Iraq an expert in explosives inside DRC.

Anywari also known as AA acted as an improvised explosive device and weapons expert for the ADF.

“Anywari, an expert in improvised explosive devices (IEDs), is born of Busia district in Eastern Uganda,” Major Bilal Katamba, the public information officer for Operation Shuja said.

He said during the operation, one SMG rifle,  45 rounds of ammunition, three walkie-talkies, an RPG charger, and an assortment of improvised explosive device (IED) making materials were recovered.

“Relatedly, four (04) children and five (05) women were rescued in Ituri province in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The rescued children and women are receiving basic medical attention as arrangements are underway to transfer them to a better medical facility.”

The UPDF and FARDC have been pursuing ADF rebels inside DRC since December 2021 when Operation Shuja, a Kiswahili word for ‘Bravery’ started.

During this time, a number of ADF camps have been obliterated while several commanders have either been killed in action or captured alive.

Several other ADF fighters have also been killed or captured by the Ugandans and DRC army.

The two armies have also seized several catches of weapons from the rebel group which has since been declared a terrorist outfit.

Meanwhile, several abductees have also been freed.

The numerous attacks by the UPDF and FARDC have seen ADF fighters split and now move in groups of not more than five for fear of being detected.

Operations targeting ADF sleeper cells and collaborators  have also continued inside Uganda with several of them crashed.
