Suspected arsonist sets Kisoro teacher's house on fire
Crime scene

Police in the southwestern district of Kisoro are investigations under which a house belonging to Jason Ntaconzaba was allegedly set ablaze by unidentified persons.

The fire started at the break of the day, residents said, adding that they only thick smoke billowing from Ntaconzaba's and rushed to help.

Neighbours said they found the door open and managed to remove a cupboard and a few household belongings in the sitting room before the fire overpowered them.

Christopher Ndabarinze, the LC2 chairperson of Kamonyi Ward, he got report of a fire in the village from a one Moses Muhingira, who informed him that his brother's house was on fire.

Ndabarize informed the OC fire brigade at Kisoro Police Station and fire fighters were dispatched to the scene.

Ntaconzaba, a teacher, said he learnt about the incident when he was at Kabindi Secondary School.

He said he had locked the house in the morning but shocked after finding a padlock with keys abandoned near the front door.

Ntaconzaba suspects someone opened the door, stole from the house and later set fire on the house.

"In the morning when I was going to work I left when I had locked my house. I have lost all my properties including my academic documents," Ntaconzaba said.

The fire destroyed the entire interior of the house, iron sheets and window glasses.

The OC for fire and rescue services at Kisoro Police, Deogracious Friday, said the fire is suspected to have been maliciously set by unknown persons because the house had no electricity at the time of the incident.

"At around 10:30am, I received a call from well-wishers raising a concern of fire outbreak on one of the houses," Mr Friday said.

"I immediately called my staff and we found out damage on properties. Since the house didn't have electricity, I suspect that someone came and opened the window and caused the fire intentionally."
