In preparation for the upcoming National Census scheduled for May 10th, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has taken a step forward with the receipt of over 36,000 tablets.
Dr Chris Mukiza, executive director of UBOS, revealed this development during a meeting with Wakiso district leadership at their headquarters in Wakiso, emphasising the importance of strategic planning for a successful census.
With a population exceeding four million people across the four municipalities of Wakiso District, UBOS has identified the region as requiring special attention in the listing and mapping exercise preceding the national census and housing survey.
During the meeting, Mukiza underlined the timeliness of the mapping exercise, cautioning against the recruitment of incompetent staff ill-equipped to handle the technologically-driven census.
"Uganda, last carried out a Census in 2014, and the statistics body believes that the 2024 census will enable better planning for the country’s population," Mukiza emphasized.
Paddy Galabuzi, district planner for Wakiso, echoed the importance of the census in facilitating improved planning and resource distribution within the district.
The anticipation mounts as the nation awaits the comprehensive insights that will emerge from the 2024 census, shaping the trajectory of Uganda's socio-economic landscape for years to come.
