The first lady Janet Kataha Museveni has urged the members of the judiciary to use Christianity as a guide which values humanity while dispensing justice.
While flagging off the first ever national Christian lawyers conference at Sheraton hotel, the first lady lauded the organisers - hoping that it will be a platform to check the indiscipline that is in the legal fraternity.
The first lady , spurred by the moral decadence in the legal fraternity like flying accusations of bribery and manipulation has urged lawyers under umbrella of Christians not to transgress in the eyes of God.
Janet Museveni who doubles as Minister for Education made the call while presiding over the first ever national Christian conference at Sheraton hotel.
She says even when government has established structures to streamline the systems, it is driven by human resource which needs to be grounded in Christian values.
Museveni was, however quick to point out the loopholes in the system. Museveni noted that corruption had become the order of the day. Some lawyers also take advantage of widows and orphans instead of helping them access justice.
Museveni said that Christian lawyers should champion the noble task to deliver justice to the helpless and the poor.
The first lady challenged Christian lawyers and legislators to collectively use Christian values to put social vices like corruption in check.
She noted that she prides herself in two simple principles that have guided her all her life: prayer and reading the Bible on a daily basis. She urged them to pick a leaf from her book in order to be lawyers of service.
The first national Christian conference is one among the many yet to come tailored at integrating faith into law practice as a mechanism to improve the justice system.
