The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has revealed plans to observe International Identity Day on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at City Square Kampala.
During the weekly security press brief at Police Headquarters in Naguru, the Public Relations Manager Osborn Mushabe shared the significance of International Identity Day.
The day is used to promote awareness of the critical importance of identification, highlight the fundamental right of individuals to have a legal and recognized identity, among others.
He encouraged the public to take advantage of the services that will be provided at City Square, Kampala. These services include registration, obtaining identity cards, acquiring birth certificates, and initiating the process to recover lost identity cards, among others.
Osborn called upon parents to bring their children who are currently on school holiday for registration with requirements which include photocopies of parents' IDs, and their original national identity card, among other documents.
Providing identification to citizens allows them access to services and legal documentation while the data collected through registration plays a crucial role in national planning for the country.
