Kasese leaders say unity will deliver victory for NRM in Busongora by-election

Prominent  National Resistance Movement party leaders  who hail from Kasese district have insisted that unity is the magic bullet to deliver victory for the ruling party in the forthcoming Busongora by-election.

Busongora South  will go into polls on August, 18 after the position fell vacant when the  Court of Appeal ruled that NRM's  Gideon Thembo Mujungu  was irregularly elected following a petition by his rival  Jackson Kathika Mbaju.

On Wednesday, the NRM Director for Communication, Emmanuel Dombo organised a District Executive Committee meeting for NRM leaders at the district party headquarters.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the State Minister for ICT in charge of National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga said with unity, the party will get victory in the forthcoming polls.

“I have observed unprecedented unity and harmony of all party leaders right from the ministers, members of parliament up to the grass root mobilisation structures,"Kabbyanga said.

“I would like to commend the district executive committee and all the distinguished leaders of Kasese who unanimously agreed to support and campaign for the candidature of Thembo Gideon Mujungu.”

In the same spirit, former minister and incumbent Kasese district NRM chairman, Dr. Chripus Kiyonga said they have intensified their efforts in explaining the NRM government manifesto in order to  demystifying the lies of the opposition and win back the pending parliamentary seat.

“Opposition for long fed our people with nothing but lies. I want to tell them that the time is over. We have already traversed villages, held meetings in a bid to explain achievements of our government and what they intend to do to ensure transformation and assured prosperity, Dr. Kiyonga stated.

Thembo Gideon Mujungu, the party  flagbearer in the forthcoming polls  said he enjoys the majority vote but urged his supporters to remain calm amidst provocation from unfriendly forces.

The NRM director of communication,  Emmanuel Dombo Lumala who facilitated the  meeting welcomed the remarks of reconciliation and togetherness of the leaders saying this rightly fits the party ideology of patriotism and the cherished values of consensus building.

Dombo who has been camped in the area for the past weeks , said the  party is determined to maintain its supremacy by emerging victorious in all by-elections that are underway across the country.

Going forward, Dombo said he  will convene similar meetings with sections of women and youth leaders, members of the informal sector, opinion leaders among others groups to capture divert views.

According to the party spokesperson, the ongoing pre-campaign activities will among others put in place a formidable taskforce to  popularize the NRM candidate.

Notable among leaders who attended the meeting include; Kasese municipality MP Hon. Kambale Ferigo and Sowedi Kitanywa, the Busongora North Member of Parliament who expressed their commitment and support towards delivering their colleague back to the august house.
