Panga wielding thugs break into house; slit 11- year -old boy’s throat who attempted to report them

Police in Kampala have commenced investigations into a gruesome incident in which an 11 year old boy was killed by panga wielding thugs who had broken into one of the houses in the neighbourhood in Nakulabye.

According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Aron Waligo, 11, a primary four pupil at Kitante Primary School in Kampala and resident of Nakulabye zone 7 , Lubaga division in Kampala was killed by thugs who had broken into the neighbour’s house at around 1pm on Friday.

“It is alleged that at around 1pm the deceased was left home but unfortunately, armed robbers wielding pangas came to break into the neighbour’s house. When the deceased saw them, he attempted to make an alarm. However, the robbers heard and followed him to the aunt's house where they hit him on the head, cut his neck and robbed money worth shs800,000,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police say that one Irene Karungi, a neighbor in the opposite home who had gone to collect her children from the school was astonished to hear someone breathing hard as she sat on the veranda, only ot find out that Waligo was lying in a pool of blood inside the house.

“She found the deceased lying on the floor in the sitting room with blood was oozing from his head and neck.  She wrapped him on the head and neck and took him to Lubaga hospital where he died upon arrival.”

Owoyesigyire noted that a team of officers from Old Kampala Police Station responded to the crime scene and took relevant statements whereas the body of the deceased 11 year old boy was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem as investigations into the gruesome murder continue.

“We are also appealing to the community to be vigilant even during daytime as criminals can always take advantage of a lapse in the community security whenever they see an opportunity,” he added.

The incident is not a common occurrence where panga wielding thugs break into homes to wreak havoc.
