Access to clean safe water in some parts of Kabarole district has remained a challenge especially in communities neighbouring mountains and rivers.
These communities depend on River Mpanga and open ponds for water which have now resulted into people drowning while fetching water.
According to Edward Kalenzi a resident of Mbuzi Karuhinga zone, four people have so far drowned in river Mpanga while fetching water since the beginning of tis year.
Locals here are now asking their leaders to construct for them boreholes to minimize the challenge.
Alex Aliganyira, a resident of Kicwamba village said that parents are worried that their children might drown in what has become a deadly river.
"It is a dangerous place and we fear that our children could drown," he said.
But for Beatrice Mbabazi who gets water from an open pond she bitter about the quality of water they use for domestic purposes, since the pond has turned into a playing ground for children.
For some residents who have access to boreholes, it is also a hustle since getting water requires patience because of the many households relying on it.
Timothy Ruhweza the chairperson works committee Kabarole district local government explained that the district is in the process of connecting all sub counties to the national water supply.
"Soon, most parts of the district will have clean water," Ruhweza said.
The district allocated Shs 55 million to the gravity water scheme this financial year.
