Den of Thieves is not boring even though it takes a very worn plotline, that of thieves versus cops and we race to the end to see who wins out. This being a 21st century movie, the cops are lily white clean characters and the thieves have their own complexity than simple greed for money.

The gang of robbers led by Ray Merrimen (Pablo Schreiber) are planning the grandest heist in their career that could see them net $30m if they successfully rob Federal Reserve Bank of Los Angeles.

A group of elite cops led by a very down on his luck Detective Nick "Big Nick" O'Brien (Gerald Butler) have the gang under surveillance and are determined to thwart the heist.

The cops have what they believe is a dependable mole among the gang of thieves, Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr) to keep them clued on the gang’s next movies.

Den of Thieves is no The Usual Suspects but it is worth sticking around for the stinger end of the movie. The shootouts and double dealings are guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat till then.

It seems like forever since Gerald Butler was in a memorable movie. Hopefully Den of Thieves slightly above average take on the heist genre is a return to the glory days of Butler’s 300 appearance. A nice weekend watch.
