Otafiire: "NRM bush war will be meaningless if MPs are allowed to elect president"

The minister for Internal Affairs Maj Gen Kahinda Otafire, has said if Parliament endorses the proposal to have MPs elect the president then the five year bush war that brought NRM to power was meaningless.

He made the remarks this over the weekend after handing over the projects constructed by the UPDF to mark 41st Tarehe Sita anniversary celebrations that were concluded in Mbale.

Otafiire said the proposal would tantamount to fraud since the NRM fought for democracy and the right for Ugandans to choose the leaders of their choice.

"The bush war would be meaningless because those are some of the issues that led us to the bush," the no nonsense minister said.

He also warned the army and the police against beating and torturing people.

He said on several occasions the army and police have been seen beating and torturing people, something that has to stop.

He said the army and police are like fish which needs water to survive and their water are the people of Uganda.

Otafiire commissioned a three classroom block at Manjiya primary school, a two classroom block at Bumayoka primary school and a block of bathrooms and latrines for expectant mothers at Bukigai health Centre III.
